I personally find watching comedy films somewhat cathartic. Most everytime a genuinely funny one comes along, I would mark my calendar for a weekend date when I can catch a screening.”Dinner for Schmucks looks like a laugh-out-loud trip that will veer me away from the stress of the workplace even for at least 90 minutes or so.
Dinner for Schmucks is actually a remake of the 1988 French film ‘The Dinner Game.’ Quoting IMDB, it is about a rising executive (Paul Rudd) who “succeeds” in finding the perfect guest, IRS employee Barry (Steve Carell), for his boss’s monthly event, a so-called “dinner for idiots,” which offers certain advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon. After watching the hilarious trailer, I simply can’t miss it. What’s more, the director is Jay Roach who helmed “Meet the Parents”, “Meet the Fockers” and all of “Austin Powers”.

Some people say that remaking the original is an outright pillaging of a classic, moreso that it was done in an hysterically funny and commercial way. I don’t mind. As long as it makes me laugh a lot, I’ve already gotten back the value of the ticket price fair and square.
The movie opens in the US on July 30. It should follow here in the Philippines by mid-August.
Dinner for Schmucks is from Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks SKG and Spyglass Entertainment. Directed by Jay Roach with screenplay co-written by David Guion and Michael Handelman. It stars Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Stephanie Szostak, Bruce Greenwood, and Zach Galifianakis.
